An Outstanding School
Welcome to the Highworth Warneford School Website, which I hope you will find helpful and informative.
The school is an 11 - 16 mixed comprehensive school serving the town of Highworth and the surrounding villages. In addition we also attract pupils from across the Swindon Borough whose parents select Highworth Warneford as their choice of school. We have approximately 925 pupils on roll, covering the whole range of abilities and backgrounds. I am delighted to inform you that in February 2008 Ofsted rated the school as "Outstanding". The full report is in the Parent Information section of our site. Click here to access.
Highworth Warneford School was established in 1975 when it replaced the Warneford Secondary Modern School which had served the area since 1957. The main school building dates from that time, with additional buildings being added in the 1970s and 1990s. Every year we carry out improvements to our facilities to ensure we provide a good learning environment for our pupils.
The school has been designated as a Technology College since 2005, and has specialist facilities for Art, Design Technology, Information Technology, Music, Physical Education and Science. There is a large purpose built learning centre, a gymnasium and extensive playing fields.
The beliefs and values upon which our work is based are:-
* All pupils and staff should aim for the highest possible standards in all the work and activities of the school.
* Pupils are happier and learn better in an orderly, well disciplined environment.
* Good Relations between pupils and staff depend on good manners, respect for each individual and an attitude of working together.
* A child's education is improved when there is an effective partnership between the school and home.
* The school must provide opportunities for pupils to enjoy and join in sport, music, drama and a wide range of clubs and activities, which serve to extend and enrich the curriculum.
In their letter to pupils after the inspection, Ofsted highlighted that the school provides outstanding education and care, pupil's academic standards and progress were excellent, they enjoyed coming to school and get on well with each other, and they felt cared for. Staff are committed to helping them make as much progress as possible. Lessons are excellent and the school provides an outstanding curriculum which supports pupil's academic progress as well as the development of excellent attitudes and behaviuor.
In 2008 The Sunday Times ranked us within the top 40 state secondary schools in England and Wales, based upon the number of pupils achieving A* or A grades at GCSE.
Our aim is to work together to provide the highest quality learning experience for all pupils within a caring, challenging environment.
